The Troup city council approved several items and resolutions when they met Monday, June 18. Included in the approved measures was an agreement with the Troup Independent School District concerning a school resource officer. The finalization of the agreement specifies the financial responsibilities of both the city and the school district and allows for a full-time SRO at the elementary school campus. more
A recommendation was made by the executive director of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement regarding the possible license suspension of suspended Smith County Precinct 1 Constable Henry Phillip Jackson. According to a petition filed in May, TCOLE executive director Kim Vickers recommended a 10-year suspension of Jackson’s peace officer’s license. more
It is official. The new location of Hangers of Hope, 3826 Troup Highway, is now open following a ribbon-cutting ceremony that took place Thursday, June 21. Members of the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, Chick-fil-A Highlands Village Shopping Center, Super 1 Foods and KVNE were all present for the grand opening. more

To celebrate sixth months in business, Hand-Picked store owner Melynda Tisdale hosted a customer appreciation sale Monday, June 18. Hand Picked is a women’s retail clothing store located at 610 North Highway 110, Suite M, in the Brookshire’s shopping center in Whitehouse. Although she moved here from Idaho in 2013, Tisdale had been raised in Slocumb and was familiar with East Texas. After working as a nurse for Trinity Mother Frances from 2013 until her retirement last year, she opened her boutique in December of 2017. From nursing to retail isn’t such a stretch for Tisdale. more
Due to the observance of Independence Day, the Tri County Leader will be closed Wednesday, July 4. As this will affect the printing date, deadlines have been adjusted accordingly. All advertising, news and sports information for publication in the July 5 issue is due by noon Friday, June 29. more
Animal lovers of all ages gathered at the Whitehouse Community Library Thursday, June 14, for a visit from Caldwell Zoo representatives and in anticipation of what animal friends might be introduced. The library hosted the guests from the zoo as part of the scheduled summer events. Morgan Armstrong, Alex Sudduth and Lori Wise, who were present, are part of a six-person group responsible for educational and outreach activities of the zoo. more
After attending to what could be referred to as housekeeping measures, including the review and approval of the monthly financial statement and previous meeting minutes, the Troup Community Development Corporation recessed their Monday, June 18, meeting to hold a public hearing. more
