The City of Whitehouse has announced a significant amount of street and drainage improvements will soon begin. Bidding for the work should be completed by late spring with work beginning by mid-summer. The first portion of drainage projects, Phase 1A, includes work on Amanda Court, Partridge Lane and Gardenview Street. Paws in the Park, an event catered to dog owners, is the result of a project put together by a group of 16 local fifth-graders and is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 19. During the February city council meeting, Solomon Dillingham and Emma Cheatham, two of those fifth-graders, requested the city set aside the day and approve the use of Whitehouse City Park for the event. more
The Troup Women’s Civic Organization (TWCO) held a banquet to honor their Woman of the Year, present two scholarships to graduating Troup seniors and to install new officers. The event was hosted at Henry’s Chapel United Methodist Church Monday, April 7. Following tradition, the naming of the Woman of the Year preceded dinner so that she and her family could take their places at the head table. Carol Whitsell presented a photo collage, which she stated was a “mini-version of This is Your Life” as she announced Nancy Mowery had been chosen Woman of the Year. more
Emmy Walley, Leslie Hargis, Brittin Palmer, and Shanna Sebring of the Whitehouse FFA Chapter have each been selected to serve as a Texas FFA Foundation Ambassador at the 90th Annual Texas FFA Convention held Monday-Friday, July, 9-13 in Fort Worth. Walley, Hargis, Palmer, and Sebring are 4 of 63 FFA members chosen to participate in the Foundation Ambassador program. The Foundation Ambassadors serve as official liaisons to sponsors, special guests and dignitaries on behalf of the Texas FFA during the annual Texas FFA Convention. more
Unity was the theme of the 2018 National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 3, based on Ephesians 4:3, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.” In that spirit, Troup came together as a community for the fourth annual mayor’s prayer breakfast hosted at First Baptist Church. City leaders, first responders and other residents joined together at 6 a.m. to participate in the morning of prayer. more
Oak Brook Health Care Center in Whitehouse is commemorating National Skilled Nursing Home Week, which is Sunday-Saturday, May 13-19. The center will be celebrating life stories of residents and holding daily events in recognition of this special week. Sunday, May 13, is Mother’s Day and Oak Brook will host a Mother’s Day tea with finger foods at 2 p.m. Family members are invited and entertainment will be provided. At 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, Oak Brook will host an open house and Nursing Home Week will be proclaimed. more
The Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association (TASCA) is excited to announce the return of line dancing. Classes are free for TASCA members and only $5 for non-members. Patriotic pride will return to the city of Bullard, as The American Freedom Museum will take time to honor the sacrifices made by veterans at the upcoming East Texas Salute 2018 event, to be held 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on the museum’s grounds, located on the campus of The Brook Hill Upper School. “The East Texas Salute provides the opportunity for the citizens and students of East Texas to show their appreciation for the sacrifices of our military men and women, to acknowledge their courage, and to show them the honor and support they have earned,” said Jan Hommel, director of the American Freedom Museum. more
