The Troup Women’s Civic Organization (TWCO) held its annual Christmas banquet Monday, Dec. 4, at Henry’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The ladies of the organization were invited to bring a guest, according to TWCO president Susan Martin, and some brought their husbands while others brought a female friend or relative. more
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) encourages Texans in all regions of the state to make preparations for winter weather as we enter the cold weather season. “While we’ve all heard the joke about Texas only having two seasons – hot and hotter – all Texans need to prepare now for the serious threats that the upcoming winter could bring,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “Every year, Texas faces the dangers of winter weather conditions, including freezing temperatures, ice, sleet, and even snow. Texans are urged to stay informed about changing weather in their area and to take steps now to help stay safe during the coming months.” more
Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran has been honored by the Texas Judicial Academy for going the extra mile to be prepared to handle his duties as county judge. Judge Moran was inducted on November 16 as a Fellow in the Texas Judicial Academy during the 2017 Fall Judicial Education Session. more

Tyler’s Pets Fur People has going home celebrations almost every day of the year as dogs and cats are matched with families who want to add a new face to the family album. But at Christmastime, some special dogs are looking for extra special families. “The 12 Dogs of Christmas are the special guys and gals who need a little more love and understanding,” said Pets Fur People’s Executive Director Gayle Helms. “All of them have been with us too long. They all want to go to a forever home but for lots of reasons they have just not found the family that fits. Yet.” more

The annual Whitehouse Christmas parade marched through town on a warm, sunny Saturday, Dec. 2. The 45 minute exhibition of cars, floats and marchers took place in front of a crowd that came prepared to watch the event. People brought blankets, chairs and food, choosing a spot early from which to view the parade themed “Rockin’ Christmas.” more
